The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2013 and XPO is temporarily closed to the public as high winds at the Orange County Great Park prompted officials to wait for better conditions.  Organizers plan to evaluate reopening the event later this afternoon and issue an update by 1:30 p.m. PDT.

U.S. Department of Energy, City of Irvine and city public safety officials made the decision shortly before opening time today.

Santa Ana winds are blowing throughout the Southern California region.  Organizers will be closely monitoring wind conditions throughout the weekend to ensure a safe event environment. The free public event is expected to be open on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The competition contests and scoring continue without interruption.
