Team Darmstadt's unique "solar louvers" wowed the architectural jury. Photovoltaic cells were integrated into each louver, which surround the entire home. Shown here are the louvers in a closed position, which maximize the power potential of the solar cells while keeping the home cooler inside.

Darmstadt's high-tech home was the overall winner of the 2007 Solar Decathlon. The team placed first in the architecture, lighting, and engineering contests.
