Kansas Project Solar House: Getting From Here To There
Solar Decathlon 2007
Following the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2007, Kansas State University and the University of Kansas sold the Kansas Project Solar House to SunEdison—the largest solar energy services provider in North America. The company set up the house as a demonstration facility at the SunEdison solar plant in Alamosa, Colo.
SunEdison has tentative plans to relocate the house in the future, but details have not been finalized. This prospect is far from daunting for a house that is as portable as it is efficient. Not only did the Kansas decathletes make the trip to Washington, D.C., for the Solar Decathlon, but they also stopped at several major cities throughout their home state after the competition to educate communities about solar-powered houses.
