Held on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., Solar Decathlon 2009 included 20 teams from around the world. See the visitors guide for information about the 2009 event.

In October 2009, 20 teams from colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, Germany, and Spain competed in the fourth U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon to design, build, and operate the most attractive and energy-efficient solar-powered house. After a close and fun-filled competition, Team Germany once again was named overall winner. The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign placed second, and Team California placed third.
