In 2005, as in 2002, the University of Colorado team brought home the top trophy by achieving the highest combined score for all ten Solar Decathlon contests. Second-place Cornell, third-place Cal Poly, and fourth-place Virginia Tech each won two individual contests in 2005.

Highlights from Solar Decathlon 2005

In the fall of 2005, teams from colleges and universities from the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, and Spain competed in the second Solar Decathlon. The teams assembled highly energy-efficient and completely solar-powered homes in a "solar village" on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
